Atlantic Quest 2004

The 2004 YMALQ was held on a beautiful late summer weekend at the Fraser Preserve in Great Falls, VA. This weekend spawned the creation of "Can Do!" attitude.

The Quest centered around very important historical figures that were less famous than most, but who made very large contributions to society and justice in the world. Each Quest station taught the young men a leadership principle and quality that they can now carry into their lives as students, sons, brothers, and leaders.

The culmination of the weekend is seen in the big picture above. Teams of young men, working together with Elders and Sages scavenged the woods for timber and built a thirty-foot signal tower. Two young men then climbed the tower and sent a signal to another young man stationed one hundred yards away. "Well Done!" signaled one side. "Can Do!" signaled the other.

The young men learned knots and lashing techniques as well as team building and leadership skills. And when the final touches and checks were made to the tower, two groups of young men heaved on ropes and raised the tower to its feet! It was a simply amazing sight, watching that tower tilt up and come to rest on its three legs. The cheering was loud and long as we all marvelled at the accomplishment.
