Atlantic Quest 2006

OUNG MEN’S ALPHA LEADERSHIP QUEST COMES TO WASHINGTON, DC MAY 5-7, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC, April 5, 2006 – For the fourth year running, The New Frontiers brings the power and possibilities of the Young Men’s Alpha Leadership Quest (The Quest) to the mid-Atlantic region. The Quest presents boys and young men ages 6 to 17 with a variety of physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges and experiences — from a demanding ropes course, to unique problem solving contests, to an international Global Connection call — all designed to cause the qualities and characteristics of the Champion to rise. Through teamwork and challenge, the young men gain a newfound respect for themselves and each other, and discover a new sense of what it means to lead. Participants gain fluency in reasoning, problem solving, goal setting, and resolving conflicts peacefully. Quest graduates have described past weekends as fun, challenging, life changing, and awesome.

The 2006 mid-Atlantic Quest is scheduled for May 5-7 at Fraser Preserve, in Great Falls, Virginia, beginning 5pm Friday and concluding Sunday afternoon. Program information and registration forms are available online at www.ymalq.org. A registration fee of $195 includes tuition, food, and lodging. Scholarships are available.

Origins and Intent of the Quest

To send our youth into the future as leaders, men and women throughout North America have joined together to provide a weekend of discovery, teamwork, challenge, and fun. The New Frontiers has sponsored and produced Quest weekends for almost a decade, encouraging responsibility and awakening leadership in the lives of thousands.

In the spirit and tradition of great historical and mythical quests of the past, young men are divided into teams and are sent on their urgent journey. Along the way, each team is presented with a series of challenges which reveal a trait fundamental to successful leadership. The journey inspires participants to think, build, discover and use a wide range of skills and talents as leaders and teammates.

The challenges presented cause young people to look within themselves to discover and develop leadership traits. The challenges encourage them to help fellow teammates do the same, in order to successfully complete the Quest. The participants will discover, with genuine surprise, what they know, what they can accomplish, and just how valuable they are to the world.
